Insomnia is a disease and one in every three persons suffers from it. There can be many reasons for not getting proper sleep like sudden change in surroundings, working for long hours in front of computer, stress and decamped routine. Insomnia can cause many problems, both physically as well as mentally.

How much sleep do we really need?

On an average, a normal human being needs 7-8 hours of sleep to feel energetic all day long. Some might need less sleep or some might need around 10 hours of sleep, but 8 hours is necessary.

  • If you are waking up tired and fatigued, then you are probably going to spend your whole day looking for chances to get a small nap and you will remain deprived of energy until the day ends. In case you manage to get a nap during the daytime, you might not get proper sleep during the night again and hence, you will wake up tired the next day, yet again.

Sleep is the process when body heals itself and restores its balance, chemically and mentally. Your brain makes new connections during the sleep, which increases your memory retention power. Without proper sleep, you tend to forget things and hence, your brain does not function normally as it should.

  • Lack of sleep affects central nervous system. CNS is the most important part of our body and it links brain to everything in our body. To keep the brain working in normal ways, it is important to keep CNS working properly. Improper sleep regime can cause chronic insomnia, which can interfere with functioning of your brain.
  • You might not be able to understand things instantly and your brain might take time to process information.
  • You might also end up getting depressed and paranoid for no reason.
  • Lack of system also affects your immune system and you are more likely to fall ill than you normally would.
  • It also causes cardiac diseases and blood pressure problems.

Getting proper sleep is very important for proper functioning of body or else you are likely to fall prey to some very serious diseases.
