Nature’s Aphrodisiacs – Natural Viagra Substitutes

Since ancient times, the possibility that certain foods can act as aphrodisiacs or enhance sexual performance has fascinated man.

Though scientists and skeptics have often called into question the proclaimed aphrodisiac nature of certain foods, there are many things that have been seen to enhance sexual desire and performance even before the invention of Viagra:

  • Wild Yam has long been thought of as a natural aphrodisiac because it is thought to increase the sensitivity of the genital area. Though many researchers disagree, it is also thought to induce erotic dreams if taken at bedtime.
  • Asparagus is thought to be aphrodisiac in nature for two reasons. It has a phallic shape which may itself be thought to be sexually suggestive. Secondly, it is vitamin E which is thought to stimulate the body’s ability to produce sex hormones.
  • Gingko is usually associated with mental prowess and is used mainly as a tool for limiting or reversing memory loss. However, it is also known to help in correcting sexual dysfunction. This is perhaps because of the properties present in gingko that dilate blood vessels thereby improving blood to the sexual organs (Gingko should be avoided if one has been prescribed blood thinning medication).
  • Chili Peppers are thought to stimulate nerve endings, and increase heat in the body because of the capsaicin content in it. It is also thought that production of endorphins, the body’s happy hormone is stimulated due to this.
  • Caviar has long been associated with luxury and has been thought of as an aphrodisiac. It is thought that the zinc content in caviar is the one that may promote testosterone production.
  • Champagne is another item associated with luxury and love making; it is thought to infuse the drinker with a warm glow and may loosen inhibitions. This is probably true for any drink with substantial alcohol content.
  • The humble banana may be thought of as being suggestively shaped since it is much like a male phallus, however the bromelain content of the banana may be seen to improve male performance.
  • Spanish Fly is rather dangerous because it is made from the dried body of a particular beetle. It works by irritating the person’s urinary tract so that blood rushes to the genital area.

Many of these alleged nature’s aphrodisiacs are not supported by researchers, however many swear by them.

So long as they are taken in moderation and there is no contra indication, there is no reason why we may not take advantage of the possible help that nature may proffer to us!
