Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic disease which is distinguished by swelling, reddening and eventually paining of joints. This disease may also lead to the formation of nodules or bumps under the skin near the affected area, deformation of joints and impairments in body movements. It may also lead to abnormal weight loss, anemia, general fatigue, morning stiffness and more.
Though there is no “one” formula to eradicate this disease, but a healthy and nutritious diet certainly helps in reducing the resulting inflammatory ailments from this disease. Jotted are certain food products that should be avoided in the diet plan of a person suffering from RA:
1. Omega6 fatty Acid
These contain unhealthy saturated and poly saturated fats which hamper the immune system and unbalance the body weight. These acids are found in sunflower oil, fried foods, meats, corn oil and more. Instead consume omega3 fatty acids that contain mono saturated and unsaturated fats which have high anti-inflammatory properties.
2. Dairy products
containing saturated fats such as cheese and butter not only put up extra calories in your body but also accelerate the harms caused by rheumatoid arthritis.
3. Fast foods and processed foods
These foods not only add up extra calories but also the preservatives added in them are highly unhealthy and even worsen the condition in this disease. These foods are also rich in saturated fats which are again unhealthy for the body and are high in oxidizing agents.
4. Sugars and refined carbohydrates
Sugar is a prominent oxidizing agent harmful for the body. It also enhances the risk of diabetes and also accelerates aging. All these factors even enhance the risk and consequences of RA.
5. High intake of alcohol
Alcohol contains inflammatory agents which make the condition of the person affected by RA even worse. Thus, alcohol should be completely avoided by such people. They should avoid the intake of caffeine products such as coffee and instead drink green or white tea.
Since Rheumatoid arthritis can be found in people from all walks of life, and of any ages, you got to remain cautious about this disease. The utmost urgency that you need to portray should be on your diet and body activities. Keep in mind the above mentioned “no nos” regarding food, and make sure that you expose your body to regular exercise, such as light cardio in the morning, or getting a swimming club’s membership for yourself!
