Autoimmune Diseases and Symptoms

The immunity system is one of the most important systems in the body as it protects us from outside invaders, infections and diseases. The immune system consists of molecules, organs and a complex network of cells which fight the unwanted bacteria throughout the day and ensure that we remain disease free.  But in some cases, our immunity system can turn and work against us. Lupus:

In this disorder, the body’s autoimmune system attacks the tissues and organs in the body and the most affected parts are the skin, kidneys and joints.

Signs and symptoms of Lupus:

There are various different types of signs of Lupus disorder and some of them include fatigue, aching joints, persistent fever and swelling in different parts of the body.

Graves disease:

This is another autoimmunity system disorder which affects the thyroid gland. Our thyroid gland is an important organ which is responsible for monitoring the metabolism of the body. This disease affects about 2% of the women aged between 20 and 40.

Signs and symptoms of Graves disease:

A person might experience weight loss is he/she is suffering from this disorder. Some other symptoms include fatigue, difficulty in sleeping and rapid heart rate.  Muscle weakness is another common sign of this disease.

Hashimoto’s disease:

This autoimmune disorder too affects the thyroid gland of the body. It makes this gland swell and gives it a feeling of irritation. This disorder prevents our thyroid gland from making enough hormones. This disease is usually found to be occurring in women between the age of 30 and 50.

Signs and symptoms of Hashimoto’s disease:

Some commons signs of this condition are constipation, dryness of skin, weight gain, depression, sensitivity to cold, stiffness and pain in joints etc.

Rheumatoid arthritis:

This is a very common form of an autoimmune disorder which affects more of women than men. In this, there is severe inflammation and swelling in the area of the joints and it can also damage the cartilage which surrounds the area of the joints.

Signs and symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis:

The symptoms of this disease are easy to detect as a person suffering from it may experience swelling and pain around the joints in the body accompanied with stiffness, fatigue and flu like symptoms as well.
