Anorexia Common Among Teenage Girls!

The desire to have a beautiful and slim body makes girls and women to take drastic actions. Even the society also puts lots of pressure on young girls by supporting exaggerated physical features as ideals of beauty.

Therefore, teenage girls try to improve physical appearance and develop eating disorders.

Teenage girls with anorexia nervosa:

Anorexia nervosa is a common problem seen among teenage girls.

If you have anorexia, you fear and avoid food. When you avoid food, you lose so much weight that you look sick.

You may not see your self as too thin. You have a distorted view of your body and will be fearful that you become fat.

You feel fat due to the normal development of curves after puberty.

You stop eating or eat very little. You will feel proud of your eating. You starve often to control your weight.

If you have anorexia, your menstrual periods stop. You will exercise too much, take laxatives to lose weight and force to vomit if you eat anything. Due to constant vomiting, you will have damaged teeth. You will count the calories for every food you intake.

Vomiting, starvation and usage of laxatives can cause serious health problems. You can also develop stomach problems, irregular heartbeat and breaking of bones.

Lack of important nutrients can cause lots of changes inside your body and makes you feel weak, tired, confused, anxious and physically unstable.

Hormonal changes in a person with anorexia:

Hormonal imbalance and improper functioning results when you have this eating disorder. Amenorrhea and osteoporosis can result due to hormonal imbalance.

Amenorrhea: Amenorrhea is a symptom that occurs in females if they do not eat properly and over work themselves to a state of starvation. If you do not eat and starve yourself, the symptoms you can get are low blood estrogen, bone mineral loss and infertility.

Overtraining, decreased body fat, low body weight and poor nutrition intake can contribute to hormone imbalance that can lead to amenorrhea.

Osteoporosis: Osteoporosis makes your bones fragile and easily breakable. If you take improper nutrition intake, it can result in osteoporosis with any level of strenuous activity.

Acting quickly to deal with anorexia:

If you have anorexia, you should act quickly. You are unaware of the dangers you are exposed to and deny of having a problem. Girls with anorexia unable to overcome on their own and therefore, plenty of support and encouragement should be provided from the families and friends.

Girls with anorexia often feel lonely and unhappy and have low self esteem and self respect. Friends and family members should help them by explaining that low body weight is not the important thing and they are unique and beautiful regardless of their physical appearance.
